Title: Optimization and Pulse Compression

Abstract:

Pulse compression is a signal modulation/coding technique used in radar applications. This technique allows for the the radar to transmit a relatively long duration, but lower power signal, while still maintaining the range resolution and signal to noise ratio (SNR) benefits of a shorter signal with higher peak power. The trade space of possible codes is enormous and generally precludes exhaustive search. One way to investigate this trade space is through optimization. This talk will discuss results from a number of different studies which used different objective functions in the course of this investigation.
