Title: Real roots of random polynomials
Abstract: A random polynomial is a polynomial whose coefficients are random variables, and estimating the number of real roots for random polynomials with independent coefficients is a central question with a long history. We discuss some recent progress in this direction, in particular we will discuss some ideas in a recent joint work with V. Vu and O. Nguyen, where we show that if the coefficients have mean zero and polynomially growing variances then the average number of real roots is comparable to the log of the degree of the polynomial.
